ABOUT

I grew up in a family of art teachers and spent 20 years working as a director on lifestyle television shows for TVNZ; including Maggie’s Garden Show and A Taste of Home. This background has given me a strong visual style.

I travelled around New Zealand, directing stories about renowned authors and artists, art and architecture, home renovation, food, nature and gardening.  My encounters with talented gardeners made me realise that I wanted to be designing outdoor spaces that improve quality of life.

Since graduating from Unitec with a Diploma in Landscape Design, I have designed gardens in various terrains, from Auckland to Wānaka.

PHILOSOPHY

I design in a plant-centric way.  My goal is to create a diverse community of plants that thrive in your particular environment.

Hard landscaping is an essential part of garden design, but plants give a space life and value. For less cost, plants can perform many of the functions of hard landscaping; shade, shelter, privacy and land stabilising.

A naturalistic garden mostly takes care of itself. You will enjoy a low maintenance garden which doesn’t need a lot of irrigation, fertiliser or be blighted by pests and diseases.

A garden can say as much about a person as their home, so I thoroughly get to know my clients’ needs and aesthetic.  My relationship with homeowners and their gardens is ongoing. As your garden matures, I can work alongside you to give advice and fresh ideas.
